Help from British men!

I have delicate doubt every time I have to use plural of "this" and "that" i.e., "these" and those". I know there is something about distance of "the thing"(object) I speak about, but still don't get it clear. Some examples will be very helpful.

I could resolve this problem on my own, using Google, but it's more interesting this way. And make you guys useful! Thanks!

That is in the past, this is in the present/future

Do you mean like "These apples i have in my hand, came from those apple trees"?

Or This apple i have in my hand, came from that apple tree.

I'm Scottish also and i think we are the worst as we bastardized it and created our own.

A better example would be;

If i had 1 (this) apple in my hand, that came from a particular (that) tree.

If i had 2 (these) apple(s) in my hand, that came from (those) multiple trees.

If i had 2 (these) apples in my hand, that came from (that) particular tree.

Or (those) apples in that basket, came from (those) trees.

If i was standing next to a tree i would say (those) apples in that basket came from (this) tree.

This and These are close, That and Those are far away. (when thinking about That and Those just imagine pointing your finger at the object)

This and That (single) These and Those (Plural)

I think this is right, well it's the way i do it ; )

Mind you if you're a true Scot you say how instead of why.... and this, that, these, those.... well any conventional grammar is thrown oot the windae!!
